Construction boosts Stonington grand tax list

Stonington - The town's 2014 grand list, the total of all taxable property in town, has increased by a little more than ¾ of 1 percent.

The grand list - which includes real estate, motor vehicles and personal property such as equipment - has increased $20.3 million, or 0.78 percent, from $2,602,877,040 to $2,623,189,324.

Town Assessor Marsha Standish said the $7 million increase in real estate was the result of the construction of the new West Marine store, construction of docks and the Red 36 restaurant at Seaport Marine, improvements at the Seaport Campground and home construction. Motor vehicle values increased by $8.5 million and personal property by $4.6 million.
