Bear who made Norwich tree a temporary home back in woods

Norwich – A bear that spent hours in a tree behind a Norwich restaurant Friday night is back in the woods, police said.

Norwich police at approximately 3:46 p.m. were dispatched to the East Great Plain shopping plaza off Salem Turnpike after receiving numerous calls reporting a bear behind the McDonald’s restaurant.

Officers cordoned off the area and, at approximately 10 p.m., the bear climbed down from the tree and lumbered off into woods on Wawecus Hill Road, police said Saturday morning.
