Waterford Police Commission budget of $5.5 million approved by finance board

Waterford - The Board of Finance approved the proposed 2015-16 Police Commission budget of $5.5 million and the $1.2 million emergency management budget without changes Monday night.

Police Chief Murray Pendleton and Lt. Stephen Bellos said previously that increases in both budgets came mostly from personnel costs.

Board member Norman Glidden voted against the emergency management budget.

The preliminary budgets, which still require final approval, show increases of 2.23 percent for the police department and 5.9 percent for emergency management.

In a simultaneous meeting, the Representative Town Meeting approved a $710,440 appropriation for a new radio console at the Waterford Emergency Communications Center, Bellos announced during the finance board meeting. The appropriation is slated to come from the town's capital and nonrecurring undesignated projects fund in the 2014-15 budget.
