EL Zoning Commission to consider proposal for new medical office complex

East Lyme – The Zoning Commission on Thursday will consider a proposal from the Norwich Orthopedic Group P.C. to build a new medical office complex at 11 Industrial Drive.

The application will be presented to the commission at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Town Hall for site plan review, according to Zoning Official Bill Mulholland.

The group’s application calls for the construction of a 30,477-square-foot building at a vacant site within a light-industrial zone near Bob’s Discount Furniture, Interstate 95 and the Pattagansett River.

According to its website, the Norwich Orthopedic Group’s main office and physical therapy center is located at 82 New Park Ave., North Franklin. Some physicians for the group, which began in 1957, are affiliated with the William W. Backus Hospital, while others are affiliated with the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

On Thursday, the Zoning Commission also will review a site plan application from Cellco Partnership, doing business as Verizon Wireless, to place a “small cell” antenna in the cupola of an existing building, the Liberty Bank at 314 Flanders Road.

Verizon is proposing placing the miniature cell equipment “to increase network capacity and improve service along Route 161 and Route 1 in East Lyme,” Michael Murphy, a spokesman for Verizon, said in an email interview.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
