No contested races in Monday's Stonington borough elections

Stonington — All the candidates running in Monday’s borough election will be elected as they each are running unopposed.

The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the borough firehouse.

Incumbent Warden Jeffrey Callahan, an unaffiliated voter who is completing his first term, has been endorsed by both the Democratic and Republican parties.

The 71-year-old Callahan, who retired three years ago said he is running again because he wants to see several projects through to completion, such as street improvements and the acquisition of new firetrucks.

“I have the time. I care about the borough so I’m willing to do it,” he said about his decision to seek re-election. “I find the day-to-day routine of the job interesting although sometimes frustrating.”

Callahan said that going forward the borough needs new people to take on the responsibility of running borough government.

Running unopposed for the six burgess positions are Democrats Amanda Barnes, Amy Nicholas and Robert Scala and Republicans Michael Blair, Howard Park and Michael Adair. All but Barnes are incumbents.

Running unopposed for tax collector is incumbent Thomas Sanford and for tax assessor incumbent Michael Schefers.

There is no candidate for clerk treasurer but Callahan said the borough can appoint someone to the post if no one runs for the position. The current clerk treasurer is Lisa Coleman.
