Mystic wine bar wins zoning approval

Mystic — The Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission approved a proposal Monday to convert the former Frank’s Exxon service station at 30 Broadway into a 99-seat wine bar/café that includes a 30-seat outdoor patio.

The commission attached several stipulations to its approval of the special use permit, including that there will be no live or amplified music and the hours of operation will be from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., as specified by owner Merrily Connery, whose husband, Michael Connery, owns Saltwater Farm Vineyard in Stonington. Editor's note: This corrects an earlier version of this paragraph.

The commission also said that any increase in employees beyond the number specified in the plans must be accompanied by a reduction in seating to maintain conformity with parking requirements. A barbed wire fence must be removed and all unloading has to take place on the property.

The garage bays of the 1,900-square-foot station, which is located at Washington Street, will house a barroom and indoor seating. Food also would be served.
