Westerly police identify victim in quarry fall

Westerly — Police have identified the 28-year-old local man who died after falling up to 100 feet at a quarry in the Bradford section of town early Sunday morning as Jack Daniels of Woody Hill Road.

At 2 a.m. police say they responded to Armetta Sand & Stone, 271 Church St. for the report of an injured person. There they found Daniels at the base of an approximately 80- to 100-foot drop. They said he was suffering from serious injuries and was treated at the scene by members of the Westerly Ambulance Corps and Life Star. He died a short time later.

Police said they interviewed three other people and later released them. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding what they are calling an “apparent fall.” Police said Monday that Daniels and three others had been riding motorcycles on the quarry property. Daniels was not on a motorcycle when he fell.
