Jewett City joins COG as a voting member
Norwich — Jewett City will now have its own seat at the regional council's table.
The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments voted Wednesday to accept the borough as a voting member on the council.
The Board of Selectmen from Griswold, a member town, had supported the request from the Board of Warden and Burgesses of Jewett City, according to a letter sent last month to the council from Griswold First Selectman Kevin Skulczyck.
James Butler, the council's executive director, said there is a precedent for this request, with Stonington borough becoming a member on the council several years ago.
Groton City and Groton Town are also both members on the council.
On Wednesday, Butler also announced that Gov. Dannel P. Malloy's office has officially approved Windham and Lebanon as part of the region's metropolitan planning organization.
The council serves as the region's metropolitan planning organization and can administer federal transportation funds.
