Norwich — State Department of Transportation crews are working to shore up a section of Route 12/North Main Street and a sidewalk after a field stone retaining wall collapsed, a DOT spokesman said.

The collapse has left a portion of the sidewalk and roadway at 663 N. Main St. with no earth supporting them.

Work crews have closed off the section, moving traffic lanes over by several feet, with a new center line. Two-way traffic is still in place.

No additional information was available Thursday.
