SEAT bus study community meetings to be held next week

The next round of community meetings on a study to improve SEAT bus service will be held this week.

The Southeastern Connecticut Council of Governments, in cooperation with Southeast Area Transit, has been conducting a study of bus transit services in southeastern Connecticut.

This week's meetings will be to share potential SEAT improvement plans and hear comments from residents, according to the study's website. Community meetings will be held in New London and Norwich and outreach staff will visit major transfer stations.

On Monday from 3 to 5 p.m., an outreach team will be at the SEAT bus stop next to New London Union Station. A community meeting will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at New London Union Station.

On Tuesday, there will be an outreach team at Plaza Court, Groton, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and at the Norwich Transit Center from 3 to 4 p.m. A community meeting will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Norwich Transit Center.

Potential service improvement plans are available online at http://seatbusstudy.com/.

The potential plans were drafted based on an evaluation of SEAT's current system, conversations with community members and stakeholders, and feedback from residents, according to the website.

In addition, a potential service expansion plan — which would require additional funding — is available on the website.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
