The regal Virgil, companion of Day reporter Rick Koster and his wife Eileen, is just shy of a year old and already has a commanding presence that recalls the elegant hounds of ancient Egypt. One imperial glance and you will do his bidding. That includes providing his favorite treats — which include carrots, kale, ice cubes and, who are we kidding?, anything — and allowing him to drape himself in the manner of a mink stole around your neck. His impressive ears serve as his crown … and possibly more. A loyal subject once theorized he could use them to gather information from faraway planets for the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) program. But he is a benevolent king, offering love, loyalty and laughs. Thanks to Wings of Freedom Animal Rescue for saving this noble creature so he could assume his rightful throne at Stately Koster Manor.
