Waterford Democrats endorse Norwich planning official to run for first selectman

Waterford — The Democratic caucus on Tuesday nominated Peter Davis, current director of Norwich Planning and Development, as its candidate for first selectman and his running mate, Glenn Patterson, a submarine construction planning consultant for Electric Boat, as selectman.

Waterford Democratic Town Committee Chairman J. W. "Bill" Sheehan said the Democrats' caucus was "small compared to our Republican friends" and that there was "no battle over candidates."

Davis would be a strong candidate in the fall, Sheehan said, anticipating a "lively discussion of town priorities and issues before the November 3rd election."

The two have served on the Waterford Representative Town Meeting, according to their resumes. Davis told The Day in January that they graduated from Waterford High School together in 1974.

The caucus also nominated incumbent Town Clerk Robert Nye to run for his seventh term and Joseph Filippetti to run for tax collector.

Sheehan and Cheryl Larder, both incumbents, and newcomer Atul Shah were nominated to the Board of Finance. Incumbent Sheri Cote and challengers Marcia Benvenuti, Miriam Furey-Wagner and Gregory Jones were nominated to the Board of Education.

John R. Morgan was endorsed for the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Representative Town Meeting candidates nominated by the caucus were: District 1- incumbent Andrea Kanfer and newcomers Jennifer Mullen and Jeremy Grabel; District 2: Incumbents Thomas Ammirati and Ted Olynciw; District 3: Incumbents Gerard "Rod" Gaynor, Marc Balestracci and Ray Woolrich; and District 4: Incumbents Susan Driscoll and Madelynne Greif and newcomers Julia Kushigan-Secor and Martin Zeldis.

"This is a strong, united ticket that is looking forward to success in November," Sheehan said in a statement.
