New London — The Working Families Party on Thursday announced it had endorsed incumbent Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio in the upcoming Democratic primary.

“His leadership has put New London on a path of progress, and his support of increasing the minimum wage, supporting education, protecting immigrants rights, and improving city services make him a phenomenal mayor,” said Lindsay Farrell, the executive director of the Connecticut Working Families Party, in a statement.

“He has a proven track record of progress in New London and is one of the most progressive mayors in the country,” she said.

Finizio is petitioning to get his name on the primary ballot to challenge City Councilor Michael Passero, who was endorsed as the mayoral candidate by the Democratic Town Committee.
