    New London High School will host Democratic mayoral debate

    New London — New London Public High School has agreed to host the Aug. 27 Democratic mayoral primary debate.

    The hourlong debate begins at 7 p.m. and will include the party-endorsed candidate, City Councilor Michael Passero, and Mayor Daryl Justin Finizio, who is seeking a second four-year term.

    The Day is sponsoring the debate. Editorial Page Editor Paul Choiniere will question the candidates and serve as moderator. The League of Women Voters of Southeastern Connecticut has agreed to provide timekeepers.

    Attendance is free and no tickets are required. Those attending are urged to be in their seats well before the start of the debate.

    Leading up to the debate, more information will be made available about coverage on theday.com as well as ways readers can submit questions they would like asked.

    The primary will take place Sept. 16, the general election Nov. 2.

    Republicans endorsed Bill Vogel, president of the Republican Town Committee, as that party's candidate in the mayoral election.
