Moisture within electrical outlet likely cause of Sunday fire in East Lyme

East Lyme — The fire marshal has determined the most likely cause of a fire Sunday on East Pattagansett Road was moisture within the electrical outlet that caused the outlet connection to fail.

Firefighters battled the blaze at the 65 East Pattagansett Road home on Sunday morning.

A neighbor, Holly Lester, had spotted smoke early Sunday and alerted the residents in the house.

Cristofer Richter of Groton, who was driving through the neighborhood that morning, also was credited for helping to evacuate the family, according to the fire marshal's office.
