North Stonington Republican Town Committee fills three vacant positions

North Stonington — The Republican Town Committee on Monday night filled all three vacancies that were created when two members resigned their positions in late July and early August.

Secretary Gladys Chase said Brett Mastroianni, chairman of the town's Economic Development Commission, is now chairman of the RTC.

Committee members voted in Marc Tate, who handles information technology and geographic information systems for the town, to the position of vice chairman.

Robin Roohr, selectmen's assistant and town treasurer, became the committee's treasurer.

"Hopefully we can now revitalize our committee," Chase said by telephone on Wednesday.

The chairman position became vacant in late July, when Selectman Bob Testa resigned his position to register as unaffiliated shortly after missing the committee's nod for first selectman by a vote of 62-51 July 28.

Testa still plans to run for first selectman in the fall, as he did in the 2007, 2011 and 2013 elections.

Sandra Steinhart, who held the positions of vice chairman and treasurer, resigned both positions in early August, although she remains an RTC member.

Steinhart, who said she's been chairperson on and off for about 22 years, said she resigned because she doesn't support the party-endorsed ticket of Shawn Murphy as first selectman and Nick Mullane as selectman.
