Nov. 12 program on history of basketball in Stonington

Stonington _ Retired police chief David Erskine and the Stonington Historical Society will present a program on the history of basketball in town on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 6 p.m. at the La Grua Center.

Erskine, who is a member of the Stonington High School Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, will discuss the teams, players, and history of the gyms where basketball was played in town from 1900 to 2015 and illustrate them with photos and slides.

The program is free and open to the public. Those attending are asked to arrive early to secure a seat.

Since retiring in 2008 after 43 years on the police department, Erskine has researched and given many popular speaking programs on the town’s history, including the history of boxing, football, and soccer, as well as the history of the Borough School and the police department.

Erskine, who played football, baseball, and basketball at Stonington High School, is a past member of the historical society’s Board of Directors and a current member of its Programs Committee.
