Simmons raises more than $28,000 for Stonington first selectman campaign

Stonington — Republican First Selectman candidate Rob Simmons continues to overwhelm incumbent Democratic First Selectman George Crouse when it comes to fundraising, having now amassed $28,190, of which $11,360 came in just the past three weeks.

As of Sunday, Simmons still had $20,617 on hand to spend in the last 10 days of what is expected to be a close election.

During the same period, Crouse raised $1,335 for a total of $4,848. He had $2,501 on hand for the remaining days of the campaign.

During the reporting period than ran from Oct. 1 to Oct. 25, the committee to re-elect Simmons and his running mate, unaffiliated Selectman Mike Spellman, received contributions from 91 individuals.

They also received $5,044 from committees, $1,428 of in-kind donations and chipped in with $1,968 of their own funds.

In the first reporting period they received contributions from 14 people.

Both campaigns have been putting up large numbers of signs over the past week while Crouse and his running mate, Democratic Selectman candidate Kate Rotella, sent out mailers over the past week to residents.
