Chelsea Gardens opponent's attorney withdraws from case

Norwich — The attorney for a Butternut Drive resident challenging the proposed Chelsea Gardens botanical gardens project has withdrawn from the case, citing “material differences” with his former client.

Attorney Keith Ainsworth, who had represented project opponent Charles Evans Jr., had filed a motion to withdraw from the case in early November. His motion was considered and approved at a hearing Monday.

Evans either must obtain another attorney or represent himself in his pending civil suit that challenges plans by the Chelsea Gardens Foundation to create a botanical garden in 80 acres of Mohegan Park off Wilderness and Judd roads.

Evans could not be reached for comment on his intentions Monday.

Chelsea Gardens Foundation officials are scheduled to give the new City Council a presentation on the plans at 7 p.m. next Monday at City Hall.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
