More than 10,000 signatures collected on petition opposing hospital budget cuts

The Connecticut Hospital Association announced Thursday that more than 10,000 people have signed its petition opposing state budget cuts to hospitals since it was launched four weeks ago.

The petition, which reads, “The cuts Governor Malloy has proposed will have deep and harmful impacts on the hospitals and put some of our state's most vulnerable populations at risk,” asks Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to reverse his recent cuts to Connecticut hospitals.

The petition can be found on http://www.StopTheCutsNow.org.

It has received signatures from residents of Hartford, Bridgeport, Waterbury, Putnam, Torrington to New London, and all points in between, the hospital association said in a news release.

“The outpouring of public support on our petition shows that Connecticut residents recognize and support Connecticut hospitals and oppose Gov. Malloy’s devastating hospital cuts,” said Jennifer Jackson, chief executive officer of the hospital association. “The governor’s actions — slashing critically needed funding — have already cost people jobs and forced hospitals to cut back services. The success this petition has seen shows that Connecticut residents are standing with the hospitals.”
