Groton — New London Mayor Michael Passero was expected to stay overnight at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital Monday after he was admitted for evaluation of what he said was bradycardia, or a slow heart rate.

Passero was taken away on a stretcher by emergency services personnel after it appeared he passed out at Electric Boat's annual legislative breakfast at the Mystic Marriott Monday morning.

Passero seemed to be alert and talking as he was taken away. He was there as a guest.

In a text message from the hospital, Passero expressed frustration about being sidelined from his schedule and said he felt fine.

New London's Interim Chief Administrative Officer, Steven Fields, said he was handling calls to the mayor's office in Passero's absence.
