Snowstorm to hit region Monday: Stonington, Ledyard, Colchester cancel schools

Don’t put away that shovel yet.

Following Friday’s storm, which dumped heavy, wet snow on southeastern Connecticut, knocking out power and closing schools, another storm is forecast to hit the region today.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning with heavy snow beginning at 3 a.m. Monday and lasting until 6 p.m. The heaviest snowfall is expected during the morning commute through the afternoon.

The area is forecast to receive between 4 and 8 inches of snow with winds of up to 30 miles per hour. Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s after Sunday’s springlike weather.

Stonington, Ledyard and Colchester have canceled schools for today.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for southeast Massachusetts, including Cape Cod, where 18 inches of snow could fall. Whiteout conditions and 40 mph winds are expected.

The weather service says New York City could get a couple of inches of snow.
