Waterford Library hosting discussion on BRCA gene and cancer
Waterford _ The Waterford Library is hosting a panel discussion on the BRCA gene mutation and cancer from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday.
Panelists are Dr. Erin Hofstatter, a breast oncologist and co-director at Smilow Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program; Claire Healy, MS CGC, senior genetic counselor and outreach coordinator to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Smilow Cancer Genetics and Prevention Program; Rabbi Rachel M. Safman of Congregation Beth El; and Linda Heller, who is living with the BRCA gene.
They will provide a BRCA overview, discuss counseling and testing options, implications for breast/ovarian/ pancreas/melanoma and other screening options, and implications for female vs. male carriers.
A question and answer period will follow the formal presentation.
