LED light conversion in New London nearly completed

New London — With the conversion of city streetlights to LED fixtures nearly completed, the city is now responding to public feedback on the new lights.

Mayor Michael Passero, in a written statement, said that starting on June 20 the city will install higher wattage LED fixtures at some locations in order to increase light distribution and visibility.

Several people had contacted the city about neighborhoods where there appeared to be less light after the LED fixtures were installed.

The city has completed conversion of more than 2,000 streetlights in all.

Passero said the city also is preparing to begin the LED conversion of decorative streetlight fixtures.

The conversion is scheduled to begin in late July.
