Jay Levin joining Suisman Shapiro law firm

New London — Attorney Jay Levin has joined the firm of Suisman Shapiro, specializing in government relations consulting, the firm announced on Friday.

Last month Levin, a former city mayor an active member of the city’s Democratic Party, left the high-profile Hartford lobbying firm of Levin, Powers & Brennan that he helped found in 1991.

Levin will work out of Suisman Shapiro’s headquarters offices at 2 Union Plaza, offering services as part of a new affiliated practice called Jay B. Levin Government Relations Consulting LLC, the firm said in a news release.

He will provide consulting in government relations on federal, state and local levels, drawing on his experience in politics on major Connecticut projects in infrastructure, energy, urban revitalization, retail and cultural arts, the firm said.

Levin “will provide a strategic connection between our practices that will enhance our abilities to collaboratively address complicated issues for clients, and we’re thrilled to have him back in New London,” said John Collins III, managing director of the law firm.

Levin said he is pleased to be joining his friends at the law firm to serve clients across the state.

According to the news release, Levin’s lobbying clients include PSEG Services Corp. of Newark, N.J.; RCI Marine of Miami Beach, Fla.; Cross Sound Ferry and Thames Shipyard of New London; Lawrence + Memorial Hospital of New London; the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut; the National Reverse Mortgage Lenders Association of Washington, D.C.; and Ironworkers Locals 15 & 24.
