Stonington COMO to hold self defense class for women, girls

Stonington — The Stonington Community Center will host a three-part self-defense class tailored to women and girls age 16 and up that is especially valuable to those heading off to college this fall, according to the center.

The R.A.D. System of Self Defense training, which has been attended by 900,000 women, according to the organization, “teaches maneuvers to help women protect themselves with confidence and force.”

Instructor Jennifer Thornell, who has taught R.A.D. since 2010, also has studied several styles of karate and Judo.

The training will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 8 and 10 and from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 13 in the COMO annex, next to the center’s thrift shop at 45 Cutler St.

The cost for members is $50, and $70 for nonmembers. For more information, go to www.thecomo.org or call (860) 535-2476.
