A draft report of a joint land use study on Stones Ranch Military Reservation and Camp Niantic has been released for a public review and comment period, which will end on Aug. 30.

East Lyme, in cooperation with Old Lyme and Lyme, the Connecticut Army National Guard, Stones Ranch, Camp Niantic, state agencies and others, is preparing the study to address compatibility planning in areas around both Stones Ranch and Camp Niantic.

The goal is to protect the viability of current and future missions at Stones Ranch and Camp Niantic while accommodating growth, sustaining the economic health of the region and protecting public health and safety, according to a news release.

The draft land use study and background report are available at www.stonesranchjlus.com.

A third and final public meeting on the land use study is scheduled to take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Aug. 30 at the East Lyme Community Center, 41 Society Road.

At this meeting, attendees will be presented with an overview of the study process and the key findings and recommendations.

In addition, the public will have the opportunity to discuss and comment on the draft study.

The report documents include information on the project background, the compatibility issues identified, and recommended strategies for addressing compatibility.

Public comments on the draft documents will be accepted at the meeting. Written comments can be submitted on the project website, or by emailing comments to the JLUS Project Manager, Gary Goeschel II at ggoeschel@eltownhall.com by Aug. 30.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
