Police do not release name of baby who died in Old Lyme

Old Lyme — State police on Monday were not releasing the name of a baby who died in Old Lyme, nor any additional information about the death.

State police and medical responders responded to a home on Portland Avenue, near the Soundview Beach neighborhood, at about 9:45 a.m. Sunday, they said in a news release.

They found an unresponsive 6-month-old child, who was taken to Middlesex Shoreline Clinic and pronounced dead there.

Detectives from the state police Central District Major Crime Squad have taken over the investigation, police said.

The medical examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Neighbors said police cruisers and ambulances were parked around 30 Portland Ave. for several hours Sunday, and left at around 6 p.m.

John Grande, a neighbor on Portland Avenue, said he didn't know the people living in that house but that the house is a rental property.

He said two adults left in an ambulance Sunday morning and later returned.
