Federal Railroad Administration to attend public meeting in Old Lyme

Old Lyme — The town has announced that the Federal Railroad Administration has agreed to attend a public meeting Wednesday at Lyme-Old Lyme High School.

Representatives from the Federal Railroad Administration have agreed to a roundtable discussion with local and state leaders about the NEC FUTURE's Draft Environmental Impact Statement, according to an announcement posted on the town's website.

The meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lyme-Old Lyme High School Auditorium, 69 Lyme St.

Questions and comments for the FRA should be submitted to selectmansoffice@oldlyme-ct.gov prior to the meeting so that they can be addressed at the roundtable discussion, according to the notice.

The meeting will be open to the public to allow residents and members of the business community to hear the discussion, according to the notice. Members of the public also will be able to submit questions at the meeting to be discussed by the participants.

Those planning to attend are advised to arrive early, as the meeting will begin promptly at 4:30 p.m., the notice states.

The Tier 1 Environmental Impact Statement for NEC FUTURE, a long-term investment proposal for the Northeast Corridor, contemplates three alternatives for future rail, as well as a "no action" alternative.

Alternative 1 includes a new Old Saybrook to Kenyon, R.I., rail segment, which appears to cut through the center of Old Lyme and continue through the region, including part of Stonington.
