Stonington to hold workshop on zoning regulation update

Stonington -- The Department of Planning will host a public workshop on the ongoing update of the town's zoning regulations on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. at the La Grua Center.

The regulations were adopted in 1961, with the last major update taking place in in 1991. Earlier this year, the Planning and Zoning Commission began a program to comprehensively update the regulations and has been meeting with various stakeholders to better understand their concerns.

The comprehensive update is intended to address the organization and consistency of the regulations and larger questions related to the town’s regulation of residential and commercial land uses.

"This is an important project for the commission and the community," said Commission Chairman John Prue in a news release announcing the workshop. "In 2015 we adopted a new Plan of Conservation and Development, last month we completed a rewrite of the Subdivision Regulations, and are now poised and determined to address these regulations."

The workshop is designed to give community members a chance to express their ideas, concerns and frustrations with the existing zoning regulations. For more information, contact the Department of Planning at (860) 535-5095 or dop@stonington-ct.gov.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
