    Ledyard Parks and Rec to offer 'Bagpiping for Beginners'

    Ledyard — The Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a weekly bagpiping course for beginner students starting Sept. 21.

    Taught by Robert Scent, who has 45 years experience as a bagpiper and 18 as the director of the Mystic Pipe Band, the course will cost $95 and includes a practice pipe.

    Students will learn the basic notes and complete the course knowing at least one of several simple bagpipe melodies.

    The class will take place on Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Juliet Long School. Registration may be done at the Parks and Recreation office or on its website.
