Food preservation fair, garden potluck to be held Saturday at North Stonington Senior Center

North Stonington — Residents interested in preserving their harvest are invited to a food preservation fair from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the North Stonington Senior Center, 391 Norwich-Westerly Road.

The event is sponsored by the Hewitt Farm Community Garden Association, in association with the Wheeler Library Seed Lending Library.

Preservation techniques, including canning, freezing, pickling, dehydrating and fermenting, will be demonstrated and further information will be given to attendees. There is no charge to the public.

The demonstrations, such as sun-drying tomatoes, will be ongoing and attendees can cycle between them.

The demonstrations will be followed by a garden festival potluck, where residents are encouraged to bring a dish prepared from their garden, Community Garden leader Mary Ann Ricker said.

"We're going to clear everything away, put out a potluck and eat together ... we're hoping it turns into a nice community event," she said.
