Norwich Fire Department to host open house Saturday
Norwich — The Norwich Fire Department will host an open house from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, with interactive events for children to learn how to crawl out of a smoky house, see how sprinklers work and check out the “Hazard Hamlet,” a giant poster of a small town complete with utility poles and electrical equipment.
The open house at the Norwich Fire Department, 10 N. Thames St., will include demonstrations by Norwich Police, an arson-detecting dog, American Ambulance and Norwich Public Utilities. Refreshments will be served.
In the “smoke house,” children can learn how to crawl to safety in a room filled with artificial smoke. In the “sprinkler trailer,” children and adults can watch a small controlled fire be started and extinguished by sprinklers.
NPU will have “Tilly,” the remote-controlled model utility truck, along with the “Hazard Hamlet” display, a colorful poster with lessons on fire and electrical safety.
