    92-year-old Niantic resident presented with WWII medals

    John Angelopoulos was honored last month by U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District, for his service in World War II. Angelopoulos, who was born in Norwich in 1924 and lives at AHEPA 250-IV Apartments in Niantic, received the Combat Action Ribbon for satisfactory performance under enemy fire; the American Campaign Medal for military duty in the American Theater of Operations; the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon with four bronze stars for four years of service in the Pacific Theater; the World War II Victory medal for service during WWII; the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation for actions during and after WWII; and the Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze stars for participation in the liberation of the Philippine Islands.

    Angelopoulos received the awards with great-nephew Dan Stamper and great-great-nephew Jack Stamper.
