    Norwich St. Patrick's Day Parade, road race and street festival to be held Sunday

    Norwich – The Saint Patrick’s Parade and Street Festival will take place Sunday in downtown Norwich, starting with a noon road race and culminating with a street festival from 2 to 5 p.m. with food and novelty vendors.

    New this year, the Rose City Shenanigans 5K road race kicks off at noon beginning at Courthouse Square, and following the parade route past the Cathedral of St. Patrick. Finishers will complete the course among the spectators gathered for the parade in the area of the street festival.

    Prizes will be awarded for largest team, best costume and best themed team. Registration is open through Friday online at www.g2racereg.webconnex.com/shenanigans5k2016. Last minute registrations and advance race bib pickup will be held at Foundry 66, 66 Franklin St., from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

    The parade kicks off at 1 p.m. Sunday beginning at Ferry Street in downtown Norwich, progressing through downtown streets and returning to Ferry Street. The street festival will take place following the parade on the section of Main Street from Courthouse Square to Market Street.

    Road closures will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday with the following schedule:

    From 9 a.m. to conclusion of the street festival: Main Street from Courthouse Square to Market Street and the entire length of Courthouse Square are closed to traffic.

    From 10:30 a.m. to conclusion of the parade: Main Street from Burnham Square to Market Street, Park Street (entire length), lower Broadway from Union Square Streets are closed to traffic.

    From 12:30 p.m. to conclusion of the Parade: Franklin Street from Franklin Square to Boswell Avenue/Oak Street, Willow Street to Broadway, Chestnut Street from Willow Street to Union Square.
