    Disability summit to be held March 11 at Mohegan Sun Convention Center

    A Disability Summit, sponsored and co-hosted by LEARN Student Support Services and LEARN Young Children and Families, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at the Mohegan Sun Convention Center.

    The free summit will bring together 75 state and local agencies and resources with information to support individuals with disabilities from birth to age 21. Families and educators are invited and guests are encouraged to bring their children.

    The event will feature nine sessions to address areas of parent needs, including respite care, benefits counseling, managing behaviors in the home, housing options and preparing students for college and transition into the workforce and independent living. There will be a quiet room for caregivers and children, with activities that include story time and yoga instruction.

    Presenters and exhibitors include LEARN Young Children and Families, Yale Child Study Center, Channel 3 Kids Camp, Miracle League of CT, Special Olympics, Connecticut Parent Advocacy Center, Connecticut Family Support Network, New England Assistive Technology, Mystic Aquarium, Unified Theater, Hospital For Special Care and LEARN Student Support Services.

    The first 200 children will receive a free book. Attendees will receive a reusable tote bag and can enter a drawing for tickets to area attractions.

    The event was made possible by Mohegan Sun. Supporters include Miracle League of CT, Chelsea Groton Bank, New York Institute of Technology, Applied Behavioral Counseling, Read to Grow and LEARN.
