    Norwich to implement parking, traffic restrictions for festival Sunday

    Norwich — City police are reminding residents and visitors of road closures and temporary traffic regulations being put into effect Sunday for the fourth annual St. Patrick's Day Parade, 5K road race and festival.

    The road race will begin at noon from Courthouse Square, while the parade begins at 1 p.m. from Ferry Street into Franklin Square, followed by the street festival at 2 p.m.

    At 10:30 a.m., areas around Franklin Square will be closed for parade and festival setup. Main Street from Burnham Square/Route 12 to Market Street, lower Broadway from Maint Street to Union Square, and Courthouse Square from Water Street to Main Street will be closed to traffic. Traffic rerouting will begin at 10:30 a.m., police said in a release issued Saturday.

    At 11:30 a.m., the following streets will be closed to traffic for the 5K road race: Franklin Street from Franklin Square to Boswell Avenue/Oak Street, Willow Street from Franklin Street to Broadway, Chestnut Street from Willow Street to Union Square, Broadway from Willow Street to Chelsea Parade, Union Street from Crossway Street to Union Square and Church Street from Court Street to Union Square. These sections of Broadway and Union and Church Streets will reopen after the road race.

    In addition, parking will not be permitted in the following areas: on both sides of Park Street from Cliff Street to Main Street; on both sides of Main Street from Burnham Square/Route 12 to Market Street; both sides of Franklin Street from Franklin Square to Willow Street; both sides of Willow Street from Franklin Street to Broadway; both sides of Chestnut Street from Willow Street to Union Square; the left side of lower Broadway from Union Square to Main Street, but both sides on the one-way part of upper Broadway. Parking areas and garages on lower Main Street, Market Street and Chelsea Harbor Drive will be open, as well as the parking deck on Broadway, and motorists are encouraged to park in these areas.

    Main Street from Broadway to Market Street and Courthouse Square from Water Street to Main Street will remain closed until the conclusion of the festival at 5 p.m.
