Ledyard High team to compete in National Ocean Sciences Bowl this weekend

Ledyard — Students from Ledyard High School are competing in the National Ocean Sciences Bowl in Oregon this weekend after their regional win in February.

Kelly Banach, Eric Banach, Samantha Beacham, Jennifer McHale and Hannah Roediger will be competing against 24 other teams at Oregon State University in Corvallis on Saturday and Sunday. This is the second year that a Ledyard team has competed at the national level under biology teacher David Bednarz.

This is the 20th year of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl, in which students compete Jeopardy-style and answer questions about biology, chemistry, geology, history and other marine subjects. The theme of the competition this year is "Blue Energy: Powering the Planet With Our Ocean."
