    Gold Star Memorial Bridge construction

Construction on southbound side of Gold Star Memorial Bridge

Construction on a project to rehabilitate the southbound span of the Gold Star Memorial Bridge will take place in multiple stages and entail lane closures.

The state Department of Transportation plans to keep four southbound lanes open during the start of the project and over the busy summer months from Memorial Day to Labor Day, according to Robert E. Obey, district engineer for DOT's District 2 Construction. Three lanes will be open at all other times.

Jersey barriers will seal off work zones on the bridge. The DOT has installed barriers on the left side of the bridge for the initial phase, shifting traffic to the right.

DOT said it will work on the left side of the southbound bridge for the first half of the project, and then the right side.

The DOT anticipates construction work will mostly be done during the day.

All entrance and exit ramps will remain open during construction, but additional lanes may be closed during off-peak hours, according to the DOT.

The DOT plans to complete work on the southbound span in Nov. 2018
