Raymond Library fundraising group to hold silent auction

Montville — The Friends of the Raymond Library, the fundraising group for the private library on Raymond Hill Road, will hold a silent auction to raise funds Friday evening.

The library, which operates in a partnership with the town as the only library in Montville, has faced financial difficulties and has been dipping into its $1 million endowment to pay for its staff’s salaries, operating costs and construction projects for years.

Library board members have said a recent audit revealed the library would have to shut down in 10 years if it keeps relying on withdrawals from its endowment.

The silent auction is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the library, 832 Raymond Hill Road, Oakdale. Bidders can vie for prizes like a handmade quilt or tickets to The Garde Arts Center and the Mystic Seaport, plus gift certificates to local restaurants.

For more information, contact librarian Lorrie Hracyk at (860) 848-9943.
