    Patrone named Presidential Scholar

    Clarke Patrone

Clarke Patrone, formerly of East Lyme, has been named a Presidential Scholar by the U.S. Department of Education.

Out of more than 3.5 million high school seniors nationwide, only 161 students were chosen as Presidential Scholars, one of the top honors a graduating senior can receive, though no cash prize is involved. Patrone is one of only two from Louisiana, and will receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion during a White House ceremony in June.

Patrone, now a resident of Broussard, La., where he lives with father Anthony and mother Roe Patrone, had his early education at East Lyme elementary and middle schools and is a National Merit Semifinalist. An AP Scholar with Distinction and a member of the National Honor Society, he is also an all-state baseball player.

Patrone was accepted via early action to Harvard University, and earned a full four-year Army ROTC scholarship.

Patrone will receive the award in a White House ceremony in June.
