    Jewish Federation presents annual film fest

    The Jewish Federation of Eastern Connecticut, in association with the Garde Arts Center, Mystic Luxury Cinemas, Connecticut College Hillel, B.P. Learned Mission and Temple Bnai Israel, is presenting the 23rd annual International Film Festival. Through June 18, a variety of venues will show films, documentaries and shorts about the breadth and depth of the Jewish experience.

    Wednesday, May 24

    “On the Map” — 7 p.m., Olin Science Center, Connecticut College, 270 Mohegan Ave., New London; film about Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 1977 win of the European Cup; $10; followed by a reception sponsored by Hadassah.

    Sunday, June 4

    “Denial” — 3 p.m., Garde Arts Center, 325 State St., New London; film about the legal battle with Holocaust deniers; $10; followed by a reception sponsored by JFEC and Solomon Schechter Academy.

    Wednesday, June 7

    “The Wedding Plan — 7 p.m., Mystic Luxury Cinemas, 27 Coogan Blvd.; film about a woman’s last-minute search for the right husband for her wedding; $10.

    Thursday, June 8

    “Who’s Gonna Love Me Now” — 7 p.m., B.P. Learned Mission, 40 Shaw St., New London; film about a gay man’s fight for acceptance from his religious family; also “El Yehudia,” a short film that won an award at the 2016 Haifa Film Festival; $10.

    Sunday, June 11

    “The Pickle Recipe” — 7 p.m., Olin Science Center, Connecticut College, 270 Mohegan Ave., New London; film about a father’s fight to get on his feet by stealing his grandmother’s secret pickle recipe; $10; preceeded by a deli dinner, $18; also “The Last Blintz”, a short film about the death of America’s mom-and-pop family businesses.

    “Secrets of War” — 7 p.m., Temple Bnai Israel, 345 Jackson St., Willimantic; film about a young friendship torn apart by World War II; $10; for ages 10 and up; also “Joe’s Violin,” a short film about the musical friendship between a Holocaust survivor and a young girl.

    Monday, June 12

    “The Impossible Spy” — Olin Science Center, Connecticut College, 270 Mohegan Ave., New London; the true story of Eli Cohen’s spy mission, shown on the anniversary of Israel’s Six-Day War; $10; followed by a discussion with producer Harvey Chertok.

    Wednesday, June 14

    “Secrets of War” — 7 p.m., Olin Science Center, Connecticut College, 270 Mohegan Ave., New London; $10; also “Joe’s Violin”.

    Thursday, June 15

    “The People vs. Fritz Bauer” — 7 p.m., Olin Science Center, Connecticut College, 270 Mohegan Ave., New London; film about German Attorney General Fritz Bauer’s battle to convict crimes committed by the Third Reich; $10.

    Sunday, June 18

    “The Women’s Balcony” — 7 p.m., Olin Science Center, Connecticut College, 270 Mohegan Ave., New London; comedy/drama about the power of community after a tragedy during a bar mitzvah celebration; $10; followed by a reception sponsored by the Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood.
