Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun report 1 percent drop in slot revenues

Both casinos reported Thursday that their slot-machine revenues declined by 1 percent last month.

Foxwoods Resort Casino “won,” or kept, $38.1 million in wagers after paying out prizes, a decrease of nine-tenths of a percentage point over the $38.4 million it kept in May 2016. Mohegan Sun's monthly win of $50.6 million was down 1.4 percent compared with the $51.3 million it won the same month a year ago.

At Foxwoods, the “handle,” which is the total amount of wagers, was $504 million in May, a year-over-year increase of 4.5 percent. Mohegan Sun’s handle totaled $620.3 million last month, a 1.5 percent decline.

Foxwoods contributed $10.4 million of its May slots win to the state. Mohegan Sun contributed $12.6 million.

Legislation authorizing the casinos’ respective owners — the Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegan tribes — to jointly develop a third Connecticut casino in East Windsor awaits Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s signature.
