Groton's Ebenezer Avery House chosen for preservation program

Groton — The Ebenezer Avery House was chosen as one of 75 institutions nationwide to take part in a program that helps museums improve the care of their historical collections, according to a news release.

The Collection Assessment for Preservation program helps museums identify their conservation priorities. It will assist the Groton museum, which specializes in home life during the Revolutionary War.

The program will bring in two teams of preservation professionals to survey the site at 57 Fort St. and meet with staff before preparing its report, the news release said.

The Ebenezer Avery House is working to improve the care, storage conditions, environmental controls and preservation of its collection and building. The museum expects the CAP program to serve as a first step in its next phase of collections care work.

The program is administered by the Foundation of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artist Works, through a cooperative agreement with the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
