An upcoming meeting in Newington will seek public comment on the 2018 Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan that includes two major projects in the region: the Gold Star Bridge improvements and the Interchange 74 in East Lyme.

The meetings will take place at 1 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at the Department of Transportation Headquarters, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington. Written comments must be received before July 31 and may be sent to Mrs. Maribeth Wojenski, Transportation Assistant Planning Director, Bureau of Policy and Planning, Connecticut Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 317546, Newington, CT 06131-7546. Commenters should include their name, address and, if applicable, the name of the companies or organizations they represent.

The transportation improvement plan will use $3 billion in federal funds, matched with $586 million in state funds and $61 million in local funds. Funds will be spread across both highway and public transit improvements and operating costs.

Copies of the plan are available for review at the Metropolitan Planning Organization at 5 Connecticut Ave., Norwich.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
