Beach on Pachaug Forest pond closed to swimming

The beach at Green Falls Pond in Pachaug State Forest in Voluntown is closed to swimming due to high bacteria levels found in water quality testing, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced Friday.

On Thursday, DEEP announced that the beach at Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme is closed, and will be resampled on Monday, with test results expected on Tuesday.

Other beaches closed on Friday include those at Gay City State Park in Hebron and Mashomoquet Brook State Park in Pomfret. The beach at Gardner Lake State Park in Salem, which was closed last week, has been reopened, DEEP said.

The state's three other public shoreline beaches and 16 other inland beaches are open.
