Waterford jumps on solar expansion program

Waterford — A state effort to recruit converts to solar residential power sources has come to Waterford.

Connecticut Green Bank, the quasi-public agency that provides financing for renewable energy projects, funds subsidies that make the installation of solar panels cheaper to residents of towns participating in its Solarize program.

Waterford officials opted into the program and chose Sunlight Solar, an Oregon-based solar panel installation company, from a list of state-recommended companies. Sunlight Solar will offer discount solar panel installations to residents in exchange for outreach and education for community members.

Town residents must apply for the discount before Aug. 10.

In exchange for promoting the program to Waterford homeowners, Sunlight Solar said it would install solar panels on a town building for free.

Homeowners interested in the program can get more information by visiting solarizect.com/Waterford or by emailing Kate Donnelly at kdonnelly@smartpower.org.
