    Resurfacing work planned for Route 49 in Stonington and North Stonington

    North Stonington — The state Department of Transportation has announced that a milling and resurfacing project on Route 49 will begin Friday in Stonington and North Stonington.

    The milling is scheduled to take place on Friday and Monday, Aug. 14, while the resurfacing will take place from Thursday, Aug. 24, through Friday, Sept. 1.

    Slightly more than 4 miles or road in Stonington and North Stonington will be affected, the Department of Transportation said in a news release.

    Motorists can expect lane closures on Route 49 between Route 2 in Stonington to Clarks Falls Road in North Stonington.

    Local police, a traffic controller and signing patterns will guide motorists through the work zone between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, when work is being performed.

    "Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions," the news release stated. "Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity."
