New London native Jason Foster returns as Harbor School principal

A native New Londoner with past experience leading a Norwich elementary school and more recently Windham High School is the new principal at Harbor School.

Jason Foster replaces Margaret Bucaram to lead an elementary school that has expanded over the past several years and is now hosting grades pre-k through fifth grade.

“I am honored and excited by this opportunity, and grateful to the search committee, Superintendent Rivera and the New London Board of Education for appointing me to the role of Principal at Harbor School,” Foster posted on the Harbor School website.

“As a native of New London, earning a leadership position with New London Public Schools allows me to innovate and invest in the NLPS community. As Principal of Harbor School, I will look to all stakeholders to provide meaningful opportunities and foster habits of lifelong learning to ensure our students’ success,” Foster wrote.

Foster served as the principal at the Uncas School in Norwich from 2013 to 2016 where he led the school through a successful application to join the state Department of Education’s Commissioner’s Network, major building renovations and is credited with forging ties between the school, the Mohegan Tribe and Norwich Historical Society. Uncas School serves many low income families on the city’s West Side, including nearby public housing complexes.

Foster left Norwich in 2016 to serve for one year as the principal at Windham High School. Foster previously worked as the assistant principal at Teachers Memorial School in Norwich and as a teacher in Greenwich.
