    USS Memphis class joins the fleet

    Groton — Eighty-four sailors of "Class 16220" USS Memphis (SSN-691), graduated from Basic Enlisted Submarine School on April 29.

    Seaman Austin Schlau was class honor graduate with a 98.45 GPA. Schlau continues in apprentice team training (ATT).

    Fireman Apprentice Rickie Johnson received the Navy Core Values Award for best exemplifying the standards and expectations of a U.S. Navy sailor. Johnson continues training in basic mechanical skills (BMS).

    Seaman Nakonnguen Senekhamphone was recipient of the Submarine Heritage Award.

    Basic Enlisted Submarine School is a six-week introduction to the basic theory, construction and operation of nuclear-powered submarines. In preparation for an assignment, sailors receive instruction on shipboard organization, submarine safety and escape procedures.
